Verbal Volley is an NSSEA “Hot Topic” Item

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

This week at the National School Supply and Equipment Association Convention in Orlando,  Susan Savoie of Teacher Heaven stores will present a seminar about products which address current educational trends.  We are pleased that Ms. Savoie has chosen to highlight Verbal Volley in her presentation. As a classroom game, Verbal Volley fits the Depth of Knowledge philosophy in that students learn in a hierarchy and can join in play at their own level. They benefit from mere exposure to important vocabulary in categories, from engaging in discussions about the nuances of word meanings, from researching word meanings in reference materials and finally from demonstrating that they understand the connections between words and can support their opinions. Verbal Volley is an evidence-based activity which can be used with available lesson plans and assessments, so it can be applied in Response to Intervention (RTI) protocols for vocabulary and literacy. Verbal Volley has adapted and extended play methods to allow differentiated instruction and active engagement during wordplay. We are looking forward to the NSSEA convention and would like to thank Susan Savoie for introducing our game in her “Smart Buying” Seminar on Wednesday, March 17 at 1:15pm.
